Our second sailing leg was from Alanya to Girne, North Cyprus, a distance of 98 nautical miles. Our group was told to arrive after 1300 hours and the weather forecast said there would be a maximum 15 knots SW-W wind and for our Najad 570 that would be perfect! We left Alanya at 17.30 and took out the sails at once. The wind was 10-12 knots SW."

It lasted for 1 hour and then the wind disappeared!

We had to put the engine on and now we had a problem how to be able to use so many hours to reach our "goal", so we put the engine on 5.5 knots  and used the autopilot and had plenty of time for cooking supper! About 20.00 it started to get dark and we decided to have 2 hour watches each.

With only 2 people on board we did not get a lot of sleep with short watches,so we will change that on the next leg. We had a lot of swell all the way because of a gale the day before. The swell coming from astern and with no wind it was a very jumpy/turbulent night. By the end of the night we had a little wind again and the sails went out  - nice wind- abeam course in 14 knots wind. But unfortunately the wind turned again and we went back to motoring for the rest of the trip.

We were allowed into the comercial harbour of Girne at about 13.00.
